The GNCHR participates in the consultation on the National Action Plan for the Safety of Journalists

On June 24, 2026, the GNCHR participated in the main consultation workshop organized by the General Secretariat for Communication and Information on the National Action Plan for the Safety of Journalists. The consultation was attended by representatives of the government, international organizations, journalists’ associations, and the media. The GNCHR, represented by its Director Eva Tzavala, participated in the panel on combating SLAPPs. Ms. Tzavala highlighted the role of national human rights institutions in protecting press freedom, welcoming government initiatives and proposing specific recommendations to align national legislation and practice with international and European standards.

The GNCHR monitors issues related to the protection of journalists as a stand-alone issue and within the broader context of the protection of human rights defenders and the state of the rule of law in Greece
