GNCHR contribution to the UN questionnaire on combating intolerance against persons based on religion or belief
The Greek National Commission for Human Rights (GNCHR) submitted its response to the questionnaire for input on the UN Secretary-General's report on combating intolerance based on religion or belief (General Assembly Resolution 79/180 entitled “Combating intolerance, negative stereotyping, stigmatization, discrimination, incitement to violence and violence against persons, based on religion or belief”).
The main axes of the contribution are the following: Non-discrimination and antiracism legal framework, freedom of religion and discrimination on the grounds of religion or belief, fostering a domestic environment of religious tolerance, peace and respect, religious education, situation of persons belonging to minorities.
The Secretary-General's report refers to the contribution of the GNCHR, while concluding that further progress in implementing each part of the action plan referred to in General Assembly resolution 79/180 is needed. Such advancement will require the consistent involvement of States, national human rights institutions, United Nations entities, independent experts, technology companies and civil society, including faith-based actors.
