The GNCHR Board welcomes the GANHRI Chair at the Commision's offices
A working meeting between the Board of the Greek National Commission for Human Rights (GNCHR) and Ms Amina Bouayach, Chairperson of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) and President of the National Human Rights Council of Morocco (CNDH), was held at the GNCHR premises on 15 October 2026.
Ms Bouayach visited Athens in connection with her participation in the international conference “Human Rights and Artificial Intelligence”, organized by the GNCHR on 14 October 2026.
During the meeting, issues of common interest were discussed, with particular emphasis on contemporary human rights challenges and the role of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs). Ms Bouayach was briefed on the work and activities of the GNCHR during the current period. Reference was also made to GANHRI’s forthcoming participation in the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) (Antalya, 6-20 November 2026), as well as in the 15th International Conference of National Human Rights Institutions, entitled “Climate Change and Human Rights”, co-organized, inter alia, by GANHRI and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (Amman, 2-4 December 2026). It was noted that the GNCHR will participate in both of these important international conferences.
On behalf of the GNCHR, the meeting was attended by its President, Professor Maria Gavouneli; First Vice-President Yannis Ioannidis; Second Vice-President Elli Varchalama; Director Eva Tzavala; Coordinator of the Scientific Staff Katerina Charokopou; Head of the Department of Administrative and Financial Organization Katerina Pantou; and Human Rights Officers (Legal Advisers) Stevi Kitsou and Ilias Tsampardoukas. On behalf of GANHRI, in addition to its Chairperson, the meeting was attended by Abdelghani Berdi, Director of Communication of the CNDH.
