Working Meeting between the GNCHR and the Embassies of Canada in Athens and Rome on Asylum and Migration

The Greek National Commission for Human Rights (GNCHR) held a working meeting with officials from the Embassies of Canada in Athens and Rome at the Commission’s premises on Wednesday, 21 October 2026.

The meeting focused on broader asylum and migration issues, the protection of human rights of refugees and migrants, the implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, and strengthening cooperation between Canada’s diplomatic authorities and the GNCHR within their respective mandates.

The GNCHR was represented by its Director, Eva Tzavala, and Human Rights Officer (Legal Advisor) Dr Christos Tsevas. The Canadian delegation included Julie Sirois, First Secretary (Migration), Embassy of Canada in Rome; Giustina Balducci, Migration Analyst, Embassy of Canada in Rome; and Julie Papanicolaou, Political and Public Affairs Officer, Embassy of Canada to Greece.
