The GNCHR at the Conference of the University of Nicosia and EDAM on “Μigration – Asylum – Nationality”

The Greek National Commission for Human Rights (GNCHR) participated in the Conference of the University of Nicosia Law School – UNIC Athens and the Association of Aliens and Migration Law (EDAM) entitled “Migration – Asylum – Nationality” in the Light of Recent Legislative Developments, which was organized on Thursday 19th March and Friday 20th March 2026. The conference was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Migration and Asylum.

The President of the GNCHR, Maria Gavouneli, coordinated the panel on Nationality, Eva Tzavala, GNCHR Coordinator of the Scientific Staff made a presentation entitled “Attracting workers from third countries: ensuring human rights as a pull factor” and Dr. Christos Tsevas, GNCHR Human Rights Advisor made a presentation entitled “The evolving concept of nationality in modern international law”.

The discussions at the conference were productive on issues on which the GNCHR has expressed itself several times in the past, through opinions, recommendations, proposals and reports and plays an important and constructive role in the effective implementation of the protection of human rights in these areas, constantly monitoring developments related to the situation of human rights in Greece and abroad.
